Each session of our online Comprehensive Program maintains the same format as our classroom program and is documented by a lecture/slide presentation, presentation of cases, a video demonstration of the project mechanic and technique, and instructions for completing the project. Each session builds on information from the previous sessions and is presented in the same sequence you will encounter in patient treatment delivery.
Just like Session Four in the classroom program, Session Four of the online program is completely didactic and does not involve hands-on treatment mechanic projects. This session is divided into short manageable sections to fit into any schedule, and can be paused and reviewed as often as you need. To successfully complete this session watch each of the lectures/chapters and complete the written evaluation for that section.
In Session 1 we covered the initial stages of treatment including proper record taking, cephalometric tracing and diagnosis, case selection, treatment planning and sequencing and bracket placement. We established the parameters to help you choose the appropriate cases to treat orthodontically and covered in detail the information you will need to gather in order to properly diagnose the case and establish a treatment plan. The foundation of our course is non-extraction treatment using Straight Wire Mechanics and Techniques. Because it is so critical to the success of your cases, we covered in detail the features and benefits of the Straight Wire bracket and how to obtain the proper placement using specific guidelines and accurate measurements. In Session Two we will built on that foundation by adding mechanics that included our archwire sequence; the force systems and ligation methods; the use of the Multi-Distalizing Arch; and the importance of Phase I Interceptive treatment using a fixed technique of brackets and bands with archwires and open coil spring. Session 3 added to our mechanics by addressing single tooth crossbites, cuspid retraction, individual root torque, anterior retraction, impacted cuspids, finishing mechanics and retention. During this session we will be discussing the techniques and mechanics that fall outside the parameters of routine sequencing for comprehensive case treatment.
The focus of this session will include discussion of treatment involving: Indications for Phase I Interceptive Treatment to include premature loss of deciduous cuspids, crowding of permanent incisors, excessive overjet, anterior and posterior crossbite, timing and treating maxillary labial frenum and the class III skeletal discrepancy, as well as the mechanics for dealing with palatal and labial cuspid impactions, and molar uprighting.
Many class III skeletal discrepancies can be corrected if intercepted at any early age and if the deficiency is in the maxilla and midface. We will discuss the treatment of skeletal class III malocclusions with the use of the Reverse Face Mask and show cases using this mechanic.
Treatment of impacted cuspids and the uprighting of molars present many different considerations prior to determining a treatment sequence. Is the tooth labial or palatal? Is the impacted tooth rotated? Is referral surgery required to expose the tooth? After exposure, what attachment can be placed on the exposed tooth? Is there sufficient space in the arch for the tooth? Your answers to these questions will help to determine the treatment sequencing. This session will detail the treatment of impacted cuspids and the uprighting of molars through lecture and case presentations.
Along with each of the techniques, numerous case presentations can be viewed that illustrate all of the mechanics that are discussed.
COURSE OBJECTIVES - You will learn the indications for use of the Reverse Face Mask, along with the proper seating, adapting and activation of the appliance. Criteria is given for the type of intraoral fixed appliance to be used in conjunction with the mask. You will learn the timing and treatment sequencing to treat impacted cuspids as well as a simplified technique for uprighting submerged and mesially inclined molars using the mechanics presented.
Session Four Includes:
Interceptive-Phase I Mixed Dentition
Reverse Face Mask
Impacted and High Cuspid Management
