Embracing a New Era
Our annual Gerety Advanced Orthodontic Treatment Mechanics Symposium in Dallas was held August 27 & 28. Our theme and focus this year was Sharing the Secrets to Case Finishing. Our goal was to help our orthodontic students see their cases with the same vision that Big Bob applied in case finishing and to understand the mechanics that are needed to finish the case with excellence. Since the emphasis of the weekend was on case finishing, it was the perfect time to present our annual Robert Gerety Case of the Year Award. This award celebrates the incredible work that our students are achieving and their dedication to excellence. As a “Celebration of Excellence” we invited each of our participants to bring their most outstanding case to present at the symposium and we are so pleased to announce that this year’s recipient of our Case of the Year Award is Dr. Michael Hawks from South Fulton, TN.
Kay Gerety presented the award to Dr Hawks who originally took our Comprehensive course from Big Bob and who has continued to support the comprehensive course as Kay and our team presented it in Tulsa and now in Dallas. Michael is also an active online student who you may just run into on The Forum. He received a beautifully engraved award to display at his office, a lifetime membership to our website, and 10 cases of brackets!

Our speakers during the Symposium presented Bob’s 7 Keys to Case Finishing Excellence using pure Gerety mechanics. and focused on the philosophies of Big Bob Gerety and his enormous contribution to GP orthodontics. Since Bob's greatest reward for teaching orthodontics was seeing the excellent results his students achieved for their patients, our annual symposium is the perfect opportunity to present the Robert G Gerety Lifetime Achievement Award. This award is presented to a Gerety student who has exhibited the qualities we admire in Dr Gerety, his dedication to excellence, his passion for learning, his commitment to continuing education courses, and his generosity to help others. Kay presented our Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr Debra Ettle-Resnick, a much-deserved recipient!
There are many qualities and factors that are necessary for excellence in orthodontic case finishing. Determination, attention to detail, persistence, and the dedication to maintain the highest standards possible as taught by Big Bob. Big Bob Gerety excelled at case finishing and has set the bar very high. He proved that superior results are repeatable by his students who are using the Gerety philosophy and techniques and are achieved with consistency and predictability. We are so proud to be able to honor our students who have proven they have the qualities, knowledge and the passion to achieve orthodontic excellence and to applaud Deb for the incredible accomplishments that she has achieved!
