Embracing a New Era

Monitors Are Welcome To Session 4 Of Comprehensive Ortho Course in Tulsa - Interceptive Treatment!

Modified: March 25, 2016 - 06:02 AM by Robert Gerety

Our next weekend of orthodontic courses will offer valuable educational opportunities that both you and your staff will greatly benefit. While the doctors are in session 4 of the Gerety Comprehensive Ortho Education program which will be focusing on Interceptive Treatment, we are also offering Kay's Basic Orthodontic Training for Assistants. It is a win-win for your whole office! The Interceptive Treatment lecture is an ideal occasion for doctors who are not enrolled in the entire program to attend as Monitors, and at the same time provide their staff with the knowledge and hands on training they will learn in Kay's introduction to ortho for your auxiliary.  Kay's course is the perfect opportunity for you to begin the process of providing your staff with the knowledge and confidence they need to successfully perform the duties you choose to delegate. These courses will be held the weekend of March 13-15 at the Crowne Plaza Southern Hills in Tulsa.

We have just completed session three of the Comprehensive ortho course and it was an outstanding experience for all of us. Tulsa once again put her best foot forward and welcomed our visitors with sunny and warm days that were just beautiful. In the classroom we were able to sustain the momentum from our first two sessions, we kept our focus and accomplished all our goals while having a good time. We welcomed two of Big Bob's past students who visited our class and shared their knowledge and experience with us.  Dr. Damon Huffman joined us for the entire weekend and spent valuable one-on-one time with our students, answering questions and doing hands-on demonstrations during our class projects.  On Saturday we provided lunch for the class and Dr Anne Mary Orr presented a tremendous Lunch & Learn "Utilization of the Multi-Distalizing Arch Appliance and the Nitanium Palatal Expander" and she did a marvelous job of sharing her cases with us that were treated using the mechanics that she learned as a student of Big Bob.  It is so rewarding to see the successes of our  past students and to watch them share their experiences with our class!  A huge Thank You to both Damon and Anne Mary!

During session one, our focus was on the initial stages of treatment which covered proper record taking, cephalometric analysis, diagnosis and treatment planning, and the proper placement of brackets and bands. Session two we continued building on the concepts from session one and introduced Big Bob's archwire sequence, force systems, ligation methods, and the use of the Multi-Distalizing Arch. Session three covered elastic forces, pletcher springs, lip bumpers, and the Nitanium Palatal Expander. Each session begins with a complete and thorough review of the previous session along with an updated handout highlighting our targeted objectives for each session. We had several hands-on projects to reinforce the lecture material and it was a pleasure to see the teamwork and diligence as our group of doctors tackled these exercises.

On Sunday we had the case review segment of our ortho course which is an invaluable part of our program. The case review offers our students the opportunity to present cases for help with initial diagnosis, or cases that are in treatment, and provides them with the exposure to many different treatment objectives. Our students have chosen their cases wisely and have presented exciting cases that will be fun to watch as they progress.

The majority of our class has elected to join the Gerety Orthodontic Seminars website and take advantage of the opportunity to access the online sessions of the comprehensive program in between the onsite meetings. It is a great study aid and allows the participants to view the information as many times as they like and at any time. In addition to the online course access, the participants can submit (3) cases for diagnosis, treatment planning and trouble shooting. This has proven to be a very valuable tool for them between sessions as they begin their first cases and have questions and concerns.
