Annual Case Finishing Course - Advanced Orthodontic Methods, Mechanics and Techniques

August 11-12, 2017

Discovering the Role of Interceptive Treatment in Case Finishing Excellence

About the Course

In order to fine tune and detail orthodontic cases we must be willing to spend a little extra time, closely examine every minute detail, and completely understand the system of case finishing mechanics.  Recent advances in material and products can greatly enhance our case finishing mechanics.  This two-day program will focus on beginning to finishing mechanics, and utilizing the proper tools to best resolve the issues in the most efficient and effective manner.

Though the Straight-Wire technique is based on no wire bending, wouldn’t you like to learn limited and selective wire bending to expedite case finishing?  These bends can also be used initially to correct molar rotation more efficiently, create anterior intrusion and bite opening, as well as angulation bends in the finishing stages.  We also want to teach the indications for effectively using auxiliary wires for tooth guidance and eruption and establishing segments within the arches for increased anchorage and control.  We have many new ideas and solutions to help you solve the mystery of case finishing and believe this program will help you in your pursuit of orthodontic excellence.

This two-day course is structured for the doctor that is currently practicing the Straight-Wire technique, has a clear understanding of mechanics and the Straight-Wire philosophy, and is looking for a program to update and expose current trends and techniques in orthodontics, in particular, those applying to case finishing.

Our Learning Objectives:

• Tried and true treatment mechanics integral to case completion

• New mechanics, products, and techniques that offer efficient ways of accomplishing treatment objectives

• Learn techniques for placing individual root torque and how to determine which works best for you

• Evaluate alternative methods for torquing upper and lower incisors for anterior coupling

Our Instructors

Kay C. Gerety - Kay assisted Dr. Bob Gerety in teaching their Straight-Wire Orthodontic courses for over 30 years and has been an immeasurable asset to the Comprehensive Orthodontic program. During this same time period, she has taught her own assistant’s clinical program in conjunction with Dr. Gerety’s courses. In addition to the clinical programs, she has lectured extensively on Orthodontic Integration and Profitability, Practice Management and Marketing, and Effective Staff Utilization.  A highly enthusiastic presenter, Kay is motivating, as well as knowledgeable, enabling you and your staff to return to your practice with a renewed excitement and enthusiasm for dentistry.

Dr Debra Ettle-Resnick - Deb earned her Dental Assisting degree before graduating from the University of Minnesota with her DDS degree.  In 1992, she started five private practices in northwestern MN, and began incorporating Straight-Wire Orthodontics into her practices in 1994.  Deb is a current member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society.  In 2004, she was awarded her Diplomat status from the AOS, and has served on their Board of Examiners.  She is a multiple recipient of the Robert G. Gerety Case of the Year Award, which is presented by the AOS as recognition for the highest level of clinical achievement in orthodontics.

Dr Damon Huffman - Damon graduated from the University of Texas Dental School at Houston in 1994.  The following year he took Dr. Robert Gerety’s GP Comprehensive Orthodontic course.  This allowed him to incorporate orthodontics into his busy family practice.   In 20 years Dr. Huffman has completed over 700 orthodontic cases following Dr. Gerety’s Straight Wire techniques.  He has been an active member of the American Orthodontic Society and the Academy of General Dentistry.  Dr. Huffman received his Fellowship in the AOS in 2011,  his Fellowship in the AGD in 2013, and his Diplomate from the AOS in 2015.  In 2014 he was named Forum Master of the Gerety Orthodontic Seminars website and currently assists Kay Gerety and Dr. Joe Schmidbauer in the Robert G Gerety Comprehensive Orthodontic Program in Tulsa, OK.

Dr Joseph Schmidbauer - Joe is an experienced general practitioner from Oregon, Ohio who has been carefully selected to work with Kay to present the most popular GP comprehensive orthodontic course in America, taught for 35 years by Dr. Robert G. Gerety. After completing Dr. Gerety’s Comprehensive Orthodontic Education program in 1989, Dr. Schmidbauer incorporated orthodontics into his practice and has continued to build that practice component utilizing a nonextraction philosophy for 26 years, completing over 2,000 cases.  For the last 7 years he has taught the philosophy and mechanics of Dr. Robert G. Gerety in the classroom with Kay Gerety in Tulsa, OK where the Geretys live.

Dr Michael Auld - Michael graduated Magna Cum Laude from Oklahoma Baptist University in 2005, and is a 2009 graduate of the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry where he graduated with distinction.  Michael joined his uncle's dental practice in McAlester, OK where he practices family dentistry. Michael took our Comprehensive Ortho course in Tulsa in 2011 and immediately began incorporating the Gerety Straight Wire techniques into his practice.  Michael has returned to our class each year and has been an invaluable mentor to our first year students and we are welcoming to our team as an Associate Instructor!
