We had the first session of our Robert Gerety Orthodontic Education Program October 14-16 in Tulsa and it was phenomenal to be presenting Big Bob’s ortho course to a new generation of dentists. It was a very fun and productive experience for us and we are so appreciative that we have been joined by such a tremendous class of enthusiastic students.
This ortho course is structured for the general dentist with no orthodontic training other than dental school. Each of our sessions builds on information, presented in the same sequence you will encounter in treatment delivery. Our format for each of the sessions is to have a blend of lectures, hands-on exercises, case review and group discussions. When you have completed this course, you will have the knowledge, skill, and confidence to treat 80% of the malocclusions that come into your office.
We had established a big goal for session one and had lots of information to cover, with our focal point being the initial stages of treatment. We did well at maintaining our focus and covered several topics which included proper record taking, Cephalometric analysis, diagnosis and treatment planning, and the proper placement of brackets and bands. We also discussed marketing and practice management for integrating orthodontics into your practice and how the addition of orthodontics into your practice not only increases your profitability, but also adds a new and challenging dimension of service to your patients and practice.
Session two is coming up Dec 2-4 and will be here before we know it. We will be building on the lessons that we presented in session one with the introduction of Big Bob Gerety’s archwire sequence, force systems, ligation methods, and the use of the Multi-Distalizing Arch. We hope that all of our participants bring cases for use to review on Sunday! The case review segment of our ortho course is an invaluable part of our program and offers our students the opportunity to present cases for help with initial diagnosis or cases that are in treatment and provides them with the exposure to many different treatment objectives.
Our ortho course is being held in Tulsa, OK at the Hilton Southern Hills. The dates for the remaining sessions are:
December 2 -4, 2011
January 20 – 22, 2012
March 30 – April 1, 2012
May 18 – 20, 2012
