Soaring to New Heights and to Orthodontic Excellence

About the Course

In order to fine tune and detail orthodontic cases we must be willing to spend a little extra time, closely examine every minute detail, and completely understand the system of case finishing mechanics: 6 Keys to Optimal Occlusion.  This 2 ½ day program will focus on beginning to finishing mechanics and utilizing the proper tools to best resolve the issues in the most effective manner.

Just as a pilot has his procedures to follow, we will present our proven techniques to help you achieve new heights and soar to case finishing excellence.  We will begin with the pilot’s flight planning and preflight checklist, records and diagnosis, and hit the runway and cruise with our treatment options and archwire mechanics.  In case of a bumpy flight we have contingency plans and then will prepare you for the final approach and smooth landing.

We have many new ideas and solutions to help you navigate your cases and believe this program will help you in your pursuit of orthodontic excellence.  This 2 ½ day course is structured for the doctor that is currently practicing the Straight-Wire technique, has a clear understanding of mechanics and the Straight-Wire philosophy, and is looking for a program to update and expose current trends and techniques in orthodontics, in particular, those applying to case finishing.

While maintaining our core philosophy and mechanics, we will explore and expose new development in appliances, materials and products as they pertain to some of our more advanced or complicated cases. There are definite advantages and disadvantages that we have encountered and we will be presenting these mechanics and defining our guidelines for determining when one appliance may be indicated over another.

Our half-day on Sunday will be dedicated to introducing Myobrace.  We are excited this year to have introduced Myobrace as a new adjunct therapy into our comprehensive program.  The implementation of Myobrace treatment will give our doctors an additional protocol for interceptive treatment and help them to improve the lives of their patients.

Our Learning Objectives:

  • Big Bob's 7 Keys to Case Finishing Excellence from Flight Planning to Landing
  • Coordinated Arch Development (Ray Greenfield Technique)
  • Managing an Anterior Open Bite (extrude anteriors or intrude posteriors)
  • Myobrace - Improving Lives by Improving Health
  • Lower Molar Distalization using the RMD Appliance

Need Hands-On Instructions?

Do you have a particular task or procedure that you would like to see demonstrated?  Bring your questions to the meeting and we will have a demonstration clinic immediately following class on Friday. Meet with the five instructors for a clinical session presenting any specific mechanic or procedure that you would like to see completed.  This is also an excellent opportunity to bring any cases that you would like some help or guidance with.

Robert Gerety Case of the Year Award

We have asked each of our instructors to bring the case they are most proud of to present at the meeting, and we invite each of our participants to bring their best case to present, too.  Each of the cases presented will be evaluated by our judges and one winner will be awarded with the Robert Gerety Case of the Year.  The winner will be presented with an engraved award and will receive a lifetime membership to our website and 10 cases of brackets.  What a great promotion it will be for you to show off this beautiful award in your office!

Please choose your case carefully and bring to class with you these required records, they may be either hard copy or digital records:

  • Before and after of:  panorex, ceph and tracing, models, and pictures
  • Patient history/ID/information

We are looking forward to you sharing your success story with us!

In addition to the clinical programs, she has lectured extensively on Orthodontic Integration and Profitability, Practice Management and Marketing, and Effective Staff Utilization.  A highly enthusiastic presenter, Kay is motivating, as well as knowledgeable, enabling you and your staff to return to your practice with a renewed excitement and enthusiasm for dentistry.

Dr Debra Ettle-Resnick - Deb earned her Dental Assisting degree before graduating from the University of Minnesota with her DDS degree.  In 1992, she started five private practices in northwestern MN, and began incorporating Straight-Wire Orthodontics into her practices in 1994.  Deb is a current member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society.  In 2004, she was awarded her Diplomat status from the AOS, and has served on their Board of Examiners.  She is a multiple recipient of the Robert G. Gerety Case of the Year Award, which is presented by the AOS as recognition for the highest level of clinical achievement in orthodontics.

Dr Damon Huffman - Damon graduated from the University of Texas Dental School at Houston in 1994.  The following year he took Dr. Robert Gerety’s GP Comprehensive Orthodontic course.  This allowed him to incorporate orthodontics into his busy family practice.   In 20 years Dr. Huffman has completed over 700 orthodontic cases following Dr. Gerety’s Straight Wire techniques.  He has been an active member of the American Orthodontic Society and the Academy of General Dentistry.  Dr. Huffman received his Fellowship in the AOS in 2011,  his Fellowship in the AGD in 2013, and his Diplomate from the AOS in 2015.  In 2014 he was named Forum Master of the Gerety Orthodontic Seminars website and currently assists Kay Gerety and Dr. Joe Schmidbauer in the Robert G Gerety Comprehensive Orthodontic Program in Tulsa, OK.

Dr Joseph Schmidbauer - Joe is an experienced general practitioner from Oregon, Ohio who has been carefully selected to work with Kay to present the most popular GP comprehensive orthodontic course in America, taught for 35 years by Dr. Robert G. Gerety. After completing Dr. Gerety’s Comprehensive Orthodontic Education program in 1989, Dr. Schmidbauer incorporated orthodontics into his practice and has continued to build that practice component utilizing a nonextraction philosophy for 26 years, completing over 2,000 cases.  For the last 7 years he has taught the philosophy and mechanics of Dr. Robert G. Gerety in the classroom with Kay Gerety in Tulsa, OK where the Geretys live.

Dr. Matthew Standridge - Matt attended college at Wichita State University and then attended UMKC School of Dentistry.  After graduating Matt worked in public health in Missouri and Kansas. In 2012 he opened his first practice in Eureka and then bought his second office in Yates Center. In 2017 both offices were merged into one newly remodeled location in Yates Center.  He has been very committed to excellence and continuing education, earning his Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry.  Matt graduated from our Comprehensive Ortho program in 2014 and immediately began incorporating the Gerety Straight Wire techniques into his practice.  Matt has returned to our class each year and has been an invaluable mentor to our first-year students.  This year we welcome him to our team as an Associate Instructor!
