Tulsa welcomed our students with a beautiful Fall weekend. Signs of Fall were all around us, the World Series was in full swing, our OU Sooners were playing football, and Halloween was just around the corner. Fall is also time for school, and we had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend with an incredibly bright and enthusiastic class that was not only fun but was also productive and focused. This ortho course is structured for the general dentist with no orthodontic training other than dental school. Each of our sessions builds on information, presented in the same sequence you will encounter in treatment delivery. Our format for each of the sessions is to have a blend of lectures, hands-on exercises, case review and group discussions. When our students complete this course, they will have the knowledge, skill, and confidence to treat 80 of the malocclusions that come into their office. During session one our focus was on the initial stages of treatment which covered proper record taking, cephalometric analysis, diagnosis and treatment planning, treatment options, treatment sequencing and the proper placement of brackets and bands. We were so happy to welcome another new class of students to the Robert Gerety Comprehensive Orthodontic Education Program in Tulsa Sept 21-23. It was an incredibly fulfilling experience to be in the classroom presenting Big Bob's ortho course to such a wonderful and enthusiastic group This is our second year teaching our ortho course in Tulsa and it is thrilling to see our group growing. We had established a big goal for session one and had lots of information to cover, with our focal point being the initial stages of treatment. We did well at maintaining our focus and covered several topics which included proper record taking, Cephalometric analysis, diagnosis and treatment planning, and the proper placement of brackets and bands. We also discussed marketing and practice management for integrating orthodontics into your practice and how the addition of orthodontics into your practice not only increases your profitability, but also adds a new and challenging dimension of service to your patients and practice. We created our website with the goal of preserving and presenting the clinical documentation and the teaching materials that Big Bob devoted his orthodontic teaching career developing. It was important to us to continue to share his work with his students and to insure that his philosophy, mechanics and techniques are available to all who desire to further their own orthodontic education. Our original thought was to use our ortho website to present Bob's cases, and have we ever exceeded that objective We launched our website in 2010 with a sampling of cases in the Case Library and session one of the Online Comprehensive Ortho Course completed. By the time we celebrated our first birthday, we had expanded the Case Library and added higher resolution pictures, enhanced the Forum to allow members to upload pictures, added the News Article section and the Calendar of Events. But our biggest achievement was completing all four sessions of the Online Comprehensive Ortho course. Our ortho seminar at the Hard Rock in Tulsa absolutely ROCKED Thank you so much to all who attended and helped to make the weekend a truly special one for us. It was such a pleasure to see so many of our friends from past ortho courses, and also to have had the opportunity to meet and make so many new friends too. We could not have asked for a better group of attendees, it was so fulfilling to watch our past students interacting with the newer students and sharing their experiences with each other. Perhaps the brightest part of the weekend was Big Bob's attendance on Friday afternoon. Big Bob came by and visited with the class and he is so excited to have been a part of such a positive event.
